Miss Kattoula's Elementary Teaching Portfolio

                    Welcome!

The opportunity to teach and inspire students is an exciting prospect.  I enjoy being with and teaching children.  As a 2009 graduate, I completed my student teaching experience at the 4th grade level within the Grand Blanc School District in Michigan.  Following this, I was a substitute teacher and I also taught summer school at Grand Blanc Academy

At the present time, I am working for the Genesee Intermediate School District as an ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher at the K-6 level in Flushing schools.  I proficiently speak two languages including Arabic and English.  This position enables me to provide students of diverse language backgrounds the accommodations, modifications and support they need to be successful in the classroom.  My role is to teach all four domains of the English language including reading, writing, listening and speaking.  I implement these lessons to students using the ESL Michigan Standards, educational resources, a positive learning environment and my unique creativity.  Also, I communicate with parents and staff through e-mails, newsletters, conferences and phone calls. In addition, I assess students using the ELPA test and evaluate students’ academic language growth.  I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient.  It is important to me that students experience meaningful learning that applies to their life and become lifelong learners.  I am proficient in many areas of technology and my strength is incorporating relevant technology into classroom instruction.  Equally important, my goal is not only to teach the academics but character as well.  It is my goal to combine my experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, creative teacher who will make a positive contribution to the school and to the students.
